World Asthma Day is an annual awareness event supported by Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and US based National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLB), and also the World Asthma Foundation. World Asthma Day has been running for 10 years. The day usually has an annual theme, and for 2018 the theme was ‘Allergy and Asthma‘.
Asthma is a chronic lung disease which causes breathing difficulties and affects sufferers to varying degrees, asthma is caused by swelling and inflammation of the bronchial tubes, sometimes in reaction to allergens, exercise, stress or changes in temperature. Asthma is not usually curable but can be controlled to certain extents, depending on how it affects the sufferer.
