The two weeks intensive training on various aspects of the dangerous infection that attacks the lungs that has been running from 3rd to 14th December, 2018 at Uganda Virus Research Institute ended with the awarding of certificates to the participants. The training involved theoretical presentations by international experts like Dr. Steven Smith from LSHTM (London school of Hygiene and Tropical medicine) who discussed on the Immune responses in Latent TB while the practical modules were conducted by fellows. Dr. Simon Kimuda the MUII Plus Alumni and APC-DR (African Partnership for Chronic Disease Research) fellow Angela Nalwoga taught about the T-cell ELISPoT assay for TB Diagnosis using T-SPOT.TB kit as Moses Egesa, a PhD fellow trained on how to use a flow Cytometer. On the other hand, Irene Nambuya a technologist and Jacent Nassuuna, the I-Vac lab manager conducted a practical session on how to carry out a Cytokine ELISA. The course participants with great pleasure thanked MUII Plus for the opportunity to learn about Immunology of Tuberculosis that was rendered to them.
“I am so thankful to the course director, Steve Cose who offered me the opportunity at the last moment. The course has been interesting and participatory in nature as we were involved in hands on experience. It has inspired me to think more on applying for a Masters in Immunology.” Carol Biyinzika one of the participants said.
The Immunology in the Tropics, 2018 is among the courses undertaken by MUII Plus at MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit to build capacity of the young scientists. We shall be honored to have you in the next intake.
